Scientific Lodge No 88

Cambridge Masonic Hall, Bateman Street, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, CB2 1NA

The oldest lodge in the Province of Cambridgeshire, Scientific Lodge dates back to 1754 and so we have a firm appreciation for tradition. We pride ourselves on our friendly and inclusive attitude and give a warm welcome to new members as well as visitors.

Our current membership includes a wide variety of professions and backgrounds, including engineering and manufacture, medical, legal and academia, IT and construction, the armed forces and the police service.

Our masonic workings are based on the ‘standard’ Emulation ritual though with many variations and idiosyncrasies as a result of our long history. We are keen for every member to play their part in the Lodge and support is readily available through our regular and informal Lodge of Instruction ‘practice’ meetings as well as from our Lodge Mentor. New and joining members can learn and participate at their own chosen pace but there is a wealth of experience and encouragement available for those with a curious mind or a wish to progress.

We are committed to supporting national charities, often via the Masonic Charitable Foundation, and our current provincial fundraising ‘festival’ runs until 2023. We also directly support charities in the local community such as the Road Victims Trust, CamSight and the East Anglian Childrens’ Hospice.

We have a regular social calendar throughout the year to involve our families and friends, with events including our traditional Fish & Chip Evening, a White Table meeting which allows friends and family to attend and a Ladies Festival dinner dance.

We welcome enquiries from prospective members who meet the general criteria for masonic membership, who can regularly attend meetings in Cambridge on the second Monday of the month from October to April. Prospective candidates are encouraged to participate in social events and to meet informally with members of the Lodge before committing to the formal joining process.
